Yes... that is a real drop of milk. I was actually trying to do that and was amazed that it worked!
[recipe here]
Malt balls are one of my favorite candies, and this week's TWD really made the most of them! These Chocolate Malted Whopper Drops were delicious, almost a candy in themselves. If I were you, I would immediately go check out Rachel's blog, Confessions of a Tangerine Tart, for the recipe!
I had to go out and buy some Ovaltine for the batter and some Whoppers for the chunks. I'm seriously considering bringing the O-tine to work to put in my coffee... it is so tasty!
As Dorie said, the batter is almost like a frosting. It's much wetter than last week's chipsters, and it did a sort of in-oven puff and out-of-oven collapse (highlighting the awesome chunks).
I used my handy #40 scoop again!
The end result was a very soft cookie with a delicious candy crunch. I did find that, although Dorie claims these cookies will keep for 4 days, they were much better the day they were baked.
About 5 seconds later, they all fell into the milk ;)
I really liked these, and will definitely make these again (just need a little time for my blood sugar to go down ;) ) Thanks to Rachel for picking it. Now go forth and read all of the entries in the TWD blogroll!

Lovely photos and cookies! I love the photo with the milk! I think Ovalt with coffee would be very interesting!
awesome pictures! those cookies look delicious!
THAT TOP PHOTO IS AMAZING! sorry, didn't mean to shout, but it really is.
Hehe - Mine fell into the milk too. No structural integrity to balance there, just collapsed and went right in. Love the drop of milk too, but that requires more patience and planning than I have :)
Okay, you are the QUEEN of food photography!! Kudos on capturing that milk drop on film!! :0)
Scrumptious cookies fit for your equally-scrumptious blog! Yes, I know, I'm cheesy ;0)
Your are fabulous! I love all your pictures!
Lovely cookies!
Your pictures are fabulous! I am impressed that you managed to catch that drop of milk! Well done!
Wow, those are absolutely beautiful photos and that drop of milk is stunning! Great job!

Very nicely done. The cookies look fabulous and the milk accompaniment looks perfect.
How in the world did you manage to catch that drip in your photo???? The Photography Gods are always smiling down on you. You have gained their permanent favor apparently.
Love that drop of milk, great timing!!
Of course it's a drop of milk. I'd hate you if you weren't so nice!!
I wasn't a huge fan of the softness of these cookies, but they were better in ice cream sandwiches.

The cookies look good, but the photo really steals the show this week. Very cool!
thanks for all of your kind words! :) the drip was seriously lucky timing... i got it on like the 3rd try (lucky?? yes) and then tried about 10 more times, but couldn't catch it again!! (plus the cookie was getting a bit too soggy, hehe)
WOW! That is absolutely amazing! You need to submit that in a contest somewhere...for BIG money!
I love the first photo! Amazing! Great job. Your cookies look delicious!

I agree, they were awesome! Oh, and how in the world did you get that drop of milk like that? Wow, I bow at your feet, oh awesome photographer lady. :)
Fantastic pictures your cookies look delish.
Oh my gosh. Your photos are stunning! The drop of milk is amazing, but so is the picture of the cookies on the rack, with the ones in front in clear focus and the ones in back sort of out of focus. HOW do you camera geniuses do things like that?? I got into TWD for the baking, but I find that I enjoy looking at amazing photographs like yours as much as anything!
That first image is fabulous! You're on your way to food photography stardom, lady!
Check you out with the action shot! Very, very cool! I love all your photos, but obviously that first one rocks!

Your milk droplet is Awesome!! You are an amazing food photographer.
Glad you memorialized for those of us living elsewhere. Even here in the Midwest, we remember.
