[recipe here]
OK, I need to admit that I am just not really a fan of scones. But, when Katrina of The Floured Apron chose it for this week's TWD recipe, I decided to give it a go.
They turned out to be... OK. Definitely better than other scones I've tried, especially eating them right out of the oven. I'm still not a scone convert, though.
The thing that sets these scones apart is the addition of apple cider, dried apple chunks and grated cheddar cheese. I thought they added some flavor -- not huge flavor, but OK flavor. I couldn't really distinguish the cheese in the finished product, but I'm sure it was there in the background.
The "dough" seemed to me a lot more like batter, since it was so wet. It was a lot easier for me to just scoop it into mounds rather than spreading it out and cutting it into pieces... it was just too loose for that to really work.
In all it was a pretty easy recipe, and not a bad result, but I'm pretty sure I won't be making it again. Unless someone pays me. ;)
As always, be sure to check out all of the other blogs on the TWD blogroll! You can find the recipe in Dorie's book, Baking: from my home to yours (along with many, many others that are not scones ;) )

Sorry to hear that you are not a scones convert. As a fan of original British scones I can say these scones are full of flavours ;-), IMHO too flavourful, so only apple and cheese are the best companions.

Sorry you weren't a fan...they are pretty though!
Despite the fact that you don't particularly care for scones, you definitely made them look delicious!! I'd pay you to make them again!! :0D
Sorry you're not a scone fan :( Guess I'm biased since I looooooove them pretty much every way I've had them! There's always next week and a new recipe!
Have a delicious day :)
It's too bad that you didn't like these, but your photos are awesome!
glad you all like the photos, thanks! :) after reading so many positive reviews on everyone's blogs, i may have to give these another shot... given that there are so many scone recipes in dorie's book, i'm sure they will crop up again soon!!
Not a fan either...but aren't you glad we tried? Yours look great!
I'm glad you tried them anyways - if you're not a huge fan of scones, try out her basic recipe. It's a bit less outside the box than these are.
As we always tell the boys, "It's important to keep checking things out because your taste buds change over time and you might like something now that you didn't then." They usually buy that...sometimes it holds true, sometimes not...but at least you gave it a try. I like the last photo with all the texture and bits showing and the little crumb...very pretty.
Your pictures are beautiful. And scooping was SO the way to go!
I love scones, but the combo apples and cheddar was what disliked me this time... Sorry you didn't like them that much! and lovely china :)
I know I would have loved yours! Your plates are so pretty along with the scones.
I'm always surprised when someone says they're not a fan of scones, I just love scones! Yours look delicious to me!
Sorry about the Not-scone-specific post... but could you kindly provide a recipe for those awesome CCC's that A so generously shared on Monday?
To the scones: for your next foray into scone making, I would highly recommend a recipe that features blueberry or currant.
Thanks!
Onw would never know that you don't like scones by how great your pictures came out! Beautiful scones.
@Marina, glad you liked the cookies! I used
this recipe and I'm planning on writing a post about the making-of :) Let me know how it goes if you make them!
Sorry that the scones were just ok. Your pics are beautiful!
Your scones look beautiful even if you aren't a convert.
Your photos look great!
Bummer. Those look really delicious!
That plate in the last pix is gorgeous! And your scones look good too, even if you didn't fancy them so much. ;-)
